Candy shop Oh So Sweet has opened at 1037 Light St. in Federal Hill. The 2,340 sq. ft. first-floor retail space has been vacant since SunTurst closed in Fall of 2014.
Oh So Sweet has relocated from Mount Vernon. Owner Tia Wilkes said she wanted to relocate her business to an area with more foot traffic, more businesses, and more schools. Oh So Sweet is adjacent to Federal Hill Preparatory School and is near the busy intersection of Light St. and E. Cross St.
Wilkes said she was also encouraged by the amount of ice cream shops in Federal Hill. Wilkes is familiar with the area as her kids attended Thomas Johnson Elementary
The new location also gives Oh So Sweet a dedicated space in the store to host birthday parties.
Oh So Sweet sells many different candies sold by the pound including dummies and chocolates, lollipops, cupcakes, fresh pop corn that can have candy and chocolate added, ice cream and snowballs with lots of topping options, funnel cakes, loaded waffles, balloons, and coffee. It also sells toys and Pez dispensers.
Wilkes first opened in Oh So Sweet in April of 2019. She has loved candy shops since she was a kid and said its always been a dream to open her own.
Wilkes took on a full renovation of the Federal Hill retail space. It has new floors and ceilings, wall-to-wall cabinets and built-in shelves for the candy, an area for birthday parties, three tables, and two dedicated walls for photo opps.
A daycare center was planned for the retail space at 1037 Light St. in 2019, but never moved forward.
Oh So Sweet is open Tuesday to Thursday from 11am to 6pm and Friday to Saturday from 12pm to 8pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 6pm.
