BBQ concept Southern N Smoked will open at Cross Street Market in Federal Hill on January 28th. This will be the first permanent brick-and-mortar location for the company which has been operating out of a food truck.
Southern N Smoked will take over a stall recently vacated by Sobeachy Haitian Cuisine.
The business, which is owned by Hank Hollis, offers Southern BBQ with a distinctive touch from Hollis’ home state of Florida.
Hollis is fueled by a lifelong passion for cooking and started crafting BBQ recipes during his travels. When he moved to Baltimore, he found a gap in the local BBQ scene, leading to the his decision to share the flavors of Florida with the Baltimore area.
Popular menu items at Southern N Smoked include its flash-fried BMORE smoked wings and mac-and-cheese balls. Hollis’ favorite dish is the The Rib Man, which is a whole sparerib plate.
Southern N Smoked plans to offer takeout and delivery options, and will explore partnerships with platforms such as Grubhub and Uber Eats once it is fully operational.
Hollis and his team are eager to open in Cross Street Market, aiming to expand their customer base and reach more people. They are especially excited to cater to Ravens and Orioles game attendees.
Southern N Smoked will host its official grand opening on February 3rd.
The redeveloped Cross Street Market has seen several closures, as well as new tenants, in recent months. It currently has three vacant stalls.
Arsh Mirmiran of Caves Valley Partners, the controlling partner of Cross Street Market, told SouthBMore.com there are currently discussions with prospective tenants on the vacant spaces.
