Baltimore Beach Back at Rash Field
Much uncertainty has surrounded the future of Rash Field, and how long it will be the home to Baltimore Beach Volleyball (BBV), as many redevelopment ideas have been discussed over the last 10 years including the Inner Harbor 2.o plan. SouthBMore.com took an in-depth look at the situation last month, including the community support BBV has received for staying at Rash Field as well as BBV’s plans for a second facility at Middle Branch Park.
Now, BBV has announced that it will indeed be back at Rash Field for the Spring 2015 session. While BBV is still moving forward with its plans for the facility at Middle Branch Park, this news makes it unlikely that a redevelopment of Rash Field will move forward in 2015.
Phillips Headquarters Updates
The Baltimore Business Journal (BBJ) caught up with developer Mark Sapperstein to get updates on the Phillips Headquarters redevelopment in Locust Point. Building 2 at the property is currently undergoing a renovation and expansion that includes a new 60,000 sq. ft. headquarters for MAIF.
The BBJ announced two new leases for the headquarters:
Now Sapperstein has completed leasing with a 13,000-square-foot lease for Samuel Shapiro & Co. and a 12,000-square-foot lease for an unnamed tenant that is still under negotiation.
Sapperstein has also signed a daycare facility, Kiddie Academy, to a 10,000-square-foot lease on the first floor. That lease drew high-fives from moms who were on a recent tour of the office complex, said Joseph P. Nolan, the NAI KLNB broker who represents the building.
Sapperstein said that although he has room to add additional buildings on the site, he’s not yet sure whether he’ll construct additional office or residential space.
Under Armour leases Building 1 at Phillips as well as 6,000 sq. ft. at Building 2. Under Armour is also currently building new office space at Port Covington.
Gyro Express at 1043 S. Charles St. in Federal Hill has closed due to “medical issues” according to a sign on the window. The space is currently for lease.
Yarn Shop Coming to Federal Hill
A new yarn shop named That’s The Point will be coming to Federal Hill at 1005 S. Charles St. in the former home of Baltimore Nutrition. Owner Gayle McClure has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the opening of the new store. From the campaign:
Any little bit to help me meet this goal would be so much appreciated.
The name of the shop will be “That’s the Point”. I will carry a supply of yarns and accessories at all price points, offer classes in knitting, crocheting and other needlecrafts, and offer a place to sit and stitch and visit with your neighbors.
I hope you will consider being my partner and sharing my story.
The are looking to open the new store in April.
