Baltimore Magazine’s ’50 Best Restaurants’

Here’s a look at the South Baltimore restaurants that made Baltimore Magazine’s ‘50 Best Restaurants‘ and a portion of each restaurant’s write-up from the magazine:

Bookmakers Cocktail Club, Federal Hill

This Federal Hill newbie is generating excitement as the first “grown-up” bar in the ’hood, and it earns the buzz with world-class craft cocktails (100-plus whiskeys; hand-blended cocktails on tap; house-made bitters and tinctures) and a relaxed but sophisticated menu that tweaks comfort-food favorites with inventive ingredients and preparations

Hersh’s, Riverside

Among the numerous gourmet wood-fired pizza spots that dot the local landscape, Hersh’s is a standout. Naturally, it boasts excellent pizza—Neapolitan pies like the Tre Porcellini, a heady combo of sausage, guanciale, braised pork, and provolone. But it’s nearly as well known for a bartending staff that turns out beautifully crafted cocktails and a kitchen whose offerings go way beyond pizza

Liv2Eat, Federal Hill

All the attention has paid off with flavor combinations you won’t find anywhere else, such as a refreshing Brussels sprout salad with toasted hazelnuts, apples, and bacon; barbecued shrimp with hominy grits; sweet Quahog clams baked with chorizo and herb butter; or a Creekstone flatiron steak with potato purée and spinach.

Guy’s Bar-B-Que Joint Coming to Horseshoe

Food Network celebrity Guy Fieri will be opening his second restaurant at Horseshoe Casino Baltimore in place of the recently closed Mallow Bar. From Horseshoe Baltimore’s website:

Introducing the newest addition to our Baltimore Marketplace – Guy’s Bar-B-Que Joint. This is the very first BBQ restaurant in the country operated by National BBQ Hall of Famer and chef, restaurater and Food Network host Guy Fieri and will be a great casual dining option at Horseshoe Casino with many items on the menu under $10. The menu includes sandwiches and platters featuring championship pork, 12-hour brisket, blue-ribbon chicken and Natty Boh bratwurst; three different styles of Guy Fieri’s signature BBQ sauces (which are also available for sale); classic sides such as collard greens, cornbread, mac & cheese and baked beans; and Guy’s signature desserts, including bread pudding, banana pudding, pies, cookies and brownies.
