Chicken and Waffles from Charm City Wings & Waffles
Looking for my first true experience with this southern-style dish, I was excited to check out Pigtown’s Charm City Wings & Waffles after receiving many recommendations.
We ordered two of the three-piece chicken and waffle meals, one with a classic waffle and one with a red velvet waffle, both of which came generously coated with powdered sugar. Everything was delicious – the chicken was juicy and flavorful and the waffles were just right (the red velvet waffle provided an extra touch of sweetness). You can dress your meal with butter, syrup and hot sauce and I recommend throwing a bit of each on the plate.
A great meal to start the day, Charm City Wings & Waffles will definitely be in the breakfast rotation and I look forward to trying some of their other non-breakfast dishes soon.
Smorgasbord at Johnny Sánchez
I went with a large group to Johnny Sánchez at Horseshoe Casino and got to sample a lot of the restaurant’s different offerings. We started with the Crispy Brussels Sprouts and it was one of the best versions of this popular vegetable dish I’ve ever had. They were covered in charred jalapeno vinaigrette with cotija and roasted pumpkin. Delicious!
I split the Chicken Burrito and the Carne Asada Tacos. The burrito was as filling as any good burrito should be and featured a nice mix of flavors that were both spicy and sweet. The tacos were filled with a quality of steak that you typically don’t find unless you order a NY Strip at a restaurant. It went great with the pickled jalapeño, guacamole, and pico de gallo.
Chicken Pepperoncini at Brendali
I’m a big fan of Italian food and am really happy to have Brendali Italian Ristorante in the neighborhood. With so many classic Italian dishes on the menu, it took me a while to get around to trying their Chicken Pepperoncini, which had caught my eye in previous trips.
When I ordered it, the server said great choice, which is always a good sign. The dish did not disappoint. The generously portioned plate came with sauteed chicken breast marinated with sage, rosemary, roasted red peppers, thyme, crushed red pepper, and white wine. It was topped with mozzarella cheese and served with creamy parmigiana risotto and sauteed spinach. It was outstanding.
Irish-Inspired Cuisine for St. Patrick’s Day
It’s fun to get in the spirit of holidays whether that’s grilling out on the 4th of July, having a margarita on Cindo de Mayo, or cooking up some corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day.
We made our own corned beef and cabbage the day after St. Patrick’s Day and slow cooked it in some FULL TILT Berger Cookie Stout. Not to pat ourselves on the back too much, but it was outstanding. The Baltimore-based beer gave it tons of flavor.
On St. Patrick’s Day I had lunch at Barfly where they were serving a corned beef and cabbage pizza. The corned beef and cabbage were cooked across the street at Captain Larry’s, so it was a Fort Ave. collaboration. Their white pizza with cheese, corned beef, onions and cabbage. The pan pizza at Barfly is always good, but this was one of my favorites.
For Dinner we stopped by Shotti’s Point where they were offering their mussels in a cheddar, bacon Guinness broth. It was awesome and we were dipping not just the mussels, but the bread and french fries in the broth.
