Let’s take a look at some of the dishes I’ve had recently in South Baltimore that really stood out. And, please don’t hesitate to share some of your favorites in the comments section!
Korean Chicken Fried Steak at S0B0 Cafe
A couple weeks back a group of six of us went to SoBo Café in Federal Hill for a nice dinner out and everyone left very satisfied after a great meal. I ordered the Korean Chicken Fried Steak and it was a tremendous combination of flavors. The steak came with kimchi collard greens, soy-garlic mashed potatoes and ssamjang gravy. Each bite complimented the next, the greens had a great kick to them and the steak was delicious. We also got an order of macaroni and cheese for the table that did not last very long.
I’ve experienced some great food from a lot of different regions in the world but, for one reason or another, my exposure to Indian food has been very limited. I knew when Kumari opened at Southside Marketplace and started a lunch buffet it would be a great chance to sample the many flavors of their Indian and Nepalese cuisine.
On a recent visit I had the chance to try dishes such as chicken tikka massala, samosas, a yellow split lentil soup, a delicious rice dish, garlic naan and more. They also served a Nepali tea that was really good with an unique taste. Overall, it was great food and a very enjoyable experience, and it cost less than $10!
Italian Calzone at HomeSlyce
Pizza, which HomeSlyce does really well, can be found tons of places throughout the city and with good reason. But, there aren’t nearly as many places where you can get a great calzone.
The Italian calzone at HomeSlyce is absolutely delicious. Their fresh dough is filled with prosciutto, salami, pepperoni, tomato sauce and mozzarella and ricotta cheese, and then topped with shaved Parmesan. All of the flavors compliment each other perfectly. Just make sure you bring a friend to share it with or reserve some space in your fridge to take the rest home!
A Great Trip to the Cross Street Market
When I heard that Hot Corner Lee’s was making Natty Boh chili, I knew I had to give it a try (I’m sort of in the school of cooking that everything taste better with a little beer in it.) This chili did not disappoint with its steak with onions, peppers, spices and Natty Boh. It was bursting with flavor and would be tough to beat in a cook-off.
I also wanted to finally try the pretzel dogs at The Pretzel Twist as I’ve never been shy about my love for pretzels. It was also very good and I could see it becoming very addictive!
