After 23 years in the Maryland House of Delegates, Senator Bill Ferguson (D) confirmed that Delegate Brian McHale (D) will be retiring from public office in District 46 at the end of his current term, which ends at the conclusion of 2014. Brian is a Locust Point resident and member of Local 953, International Longshoremen’s Association.
District 46, which represents all of South Baltimore as well as Southeast and parts of Southwest Baltimore, holds three delegate positions in the Maryland House of Delegates. It is represented by one senator in the Maryland Senate. Incumbents Senator Bill Ferguson (D) of Canton and Delegates Pete Hammen (D) of Brewers Hill and Luke Clippinger (D) of Riverside are all running for re-election. They have added attorney and Fells Point resident Brooke Lierman (D) to their ticket to fill the spot of McHale.
The three candidates for delegate with the highest number of votes get the delegate seats. Also running for delegate is Federal Hill/South Baltimore resident Bill Romani (D) and Greektown resident Liam Davis (D). The deadline for candidacy is February 15th.
The Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 24th and the General Election will take place on Tuesday, November 4th. Terms are four years in length from 2014-2018.
