A new women’s shoe store is coming to Federal Hill as Her Heelz Shoe Boutique is opening this Saturday at 1123 Light St. The storefront is adjacent to Light Street Café and is the former home of an American Apparel storage space as well as Computer Harbor.
Her Heelz is a “dream in the making” for Shirley McClellan who has an MBA from Johns Hopkins, spent 20 years in the corporate world, and most recently retired as a teacher. “I’ve always wanted to open a shoe store since I can remember,” said McClellan. “I’ve always had the problem of having really large feet and not being able to get pretty shoes. The idea of Her Heelz is to have shoes for all women.”
Her Heelz will have 40 different styles of high heel shoes from sizes 5 to 13 that McClellan described as “very fun, sexy, pretty, crazy, and colorful.” Her Heelz will start out with more than 1,000 shoes in the store with plans to offer flat shoes and sandals in the future. She will also be launching an online store on February 1st of next year.
The store will be approximately 2,000 sq. ft. with a 1,300 sq. ft. showroom. McClellan recently completed a renovation of the interior of the space, including a new floor and ceiling, and is looking to make further improvements to the exterior facade in the near future.
The store will be run by McClellan and her son who is a Digital Harbor graduate. McClellan, who grew up in West Baltimore, developed a love for Federal Hill while participating in community events while her son was a student in the neighborhood. She described Federal Hill as the best shopping and restaurant area in Baltimore and said she loves the “awesome” women’s boutiques in the area that feature many “up-and-coming” designers.
Her Heelz will host its grand opening, including a jazz band and giveaways, this Saturday from 2pm to 6pm. It will then be open Monday through Friday from 11am and 7pm and Saturdays from 10am to 6pm.
