Work Printing Receives Comptroller Award
Pigtown’s Work Printing and Graphics was given a Certificate of Recognition by Comptroller of Maryland Peter Franchot. It reads:
In recognition of your locally owned and operated full-service print shop in the Pigtown neighborhood of Baltimore for more than 15 years. Your unwavering commitment to quality is well-known to your patrons. With special appreciation for your contribution to Maryland’s economy and for being one of the first businesses to invest in the area’s revitalization, best wishes for continued growth, success and prosperity.
In entering Work for this recognition, Pigtown Main Street said:
The owners, Rob and Debbie Dickerson bought a critical property, improved the façade and set a standard for other businesses. They were pioneers and remain business owners who prove daily that Pigtown and Baltimore is a valuable investment. They were and remain instrumental to the successes along our Main Street.
Since their arrival in Pigtown, the owners contribute in-kind donations, serve on committees, volunteer at events and Debbie serves on the Pigtown Board of Directors. Many of Pigtown Main Street’s events, neighborhood improvement projects and more would not have been possible without Work Printing’s in-kind services and support. In addition to their contribution to Pigtown’s Main Street, Work Printing supports the large nonprofit sector by providing discounts to organizations and donates portion of their profits to organizations that utilize their services.
Work is located at 762 Washington Blvd. Next year will mark 20 years in business for Work.
Knockout Fitness Expanding to Towson
Federal Hill’s boxing-inspired gym Knockout Fitness is planning to open a new 9,750 sq. ft. space this summer at 321 York Rd. in Towson. From The Baltimore Sun:
“Towson was a no brainer — it’s in close proximity to our ideal demographic, and a short drive away for county residents,” said Jason Nissley, who co-founded Knockout Fitness with his brother Chris Nissley, in a statement.
The Nissleys cited Towson’s student population as well as the lack of other specialty gyms there and Towson’s ongoing redevelopment.
“Towson is definitely the new, hip destination and we are beyond excited to be a part of it,” Chris Nissley said in a statement.
Black Cherry Puppet Theater Launches Fundraiser
Hollins Market’s Black Cherry Puppet Theater is fundraising for a new roof after it was ripped apart during a storm last March. From GoFundMe:
In March, a violent storm hit Baltimore and ripped part of the roof off of Black Cherry Puppet Theater. The theater was purchased and renovated originally in 1996, but it was set for a new capital campaign to finish these renovations and make the theater a more usable space in 2020. Unfortunately, the storm hit ahead of this campaign, and a new roof, which was going to be part of that fundraising, is desperately needed immediately. Other avenues for funds to fix the roof have been, and continue to be, investigated. But in six months since the storm, Baltimore has seen a record amount of rain and storms and the temporary measures to keep water out of the building are not holding up, and the inside of the theater is being further damaged. So now, we are turning to you for help. No amount is too small.
