Riverside’s Thomas Johnson Elementary Middle School (TJEMS) was ranked as the top elementary school in Baltimore City, according to a new U.S. News & World Report Ranking. The other two public elementary schools on the South Baltimore Peninsula came in high on the rankings as Federal Hill Preparatory School (Prep) came in at #3 and Locust Point’s Francis Scott Key Elementary Middle School (FSK) Came in at #6.

About the methodology:

The rankings use the same methodology for all included grade levels. For each state, schools were assessed on their shares of students who were proficient or above proficient in their mathematics and reading/language arts state assessments. Half of the formula assessed the scores themselves and the other half incorporated the test results in the context of socioeconomic demographics. In other words, the top-ranked schools are all high-achieving and have succeeded at educating all their students.

Other Baltimore City schools in the top 1o are Roland Park Elementary Middle School, The Green School of Baltimore, The Mount Washington School, Hampden Elementary Middle School, Hampstead Hill Academy, Mount Royal Elementary Middle School, and Tunbridge Public Charter School.

Pigtown’s George Washington Elementary came in at #18 and Pigtown’s Southwest Baltimore Charter School came in at #28. Morrell Park Elementary Middle School came in at #26.
