Dental practice Federal Hill Smiles closed last month at 835 Light St. in Federal Hill. The practice, which was run by Denise Markoff DDS PA, was open for 40 years.
Dr. Markoff sent the following email to her patients:
The post Dental Practice ‘Federal Hill Smiles’ Closes first appeared on SouthBMore.com.Dear Patients and Friends, Over the past three years, I have worked tirelessly to find a well-trained, compassionate dentist to take over my practice and continue providing the high-quality, personal care you deserve. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, several challenges—including the complexities of urban practice, such as limited nearby parking and the demands of accepting all types of insurance—made this transition difficult, I also made the decision not to sell the practice to a corporation, as maintaining the integrity of patient care has always been my highest priority.
As a result, it is with profound sadness and regret that I must announce the closing of Federal Hill Smiles at the end of this month. This decision has not come easily, but recent health challenges, including a fall and hip fractures, have significantly affected my mobility. I have realized that continuing to work would delay my recovery, and stepping away is the right decision for my health and well-being.
For forty incredible years, I have been honored to serve such a diverse and wonderful community. I am deeply grateful for the relationships we have built. Your stories, conversations, and perspectives have enriched my life beyond measure, and they are what I will miss the most.
I am proud of the care we have provided and of my contributions as a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and a mentor to younger dentists across the country through my work with Gordon Christensen and the internationally recognized Crown Council. Dentistry has always been my life’s passion, and it has been an honor to serve you.
Our last day for regular appointments will be Thursday, January 30, 2025. Patients with active treatment plans or scheduled follow-up visits will be seen for up to thirty days after this date, in accordance with state law. If you are affected, our office will contact you directly to reschedule your visits accordingly.
As you transition to a new dentist, I recommend choosing someone with Masters or Fellows credentials from the Academy of General Dentistry, as these reflect a commitment to excellence in patient care. I will retain some staff temporarily to assist with record-keeping and forwarding, ensuring a smooth transition for you.
Thank you for the privilege of being your dentist and smile facilitator for these many years. Many of you have become dear friends, and while I will miss practicing dentistry, I look forward to finding new ways to stay connected.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Denise Markoff DDS PA
