The Baltimore Sun recently compiled their list of the Best Bars in Baltimore and quite a few from Federal Hill were honored. While no bars in the area cracked the Top 5, which went to Mahaffey’s Pub, Brewer’s Art, Cat’s Eye Pub, Max’s Taphouse and Club Charles, here’s how they ranked:
#17- Little Havana
#25- Crazy Lil’s
#29- Ropewalk Tavern
#34- Stalking Horse
#35- No Idea Tavern
#36- Pub Dog
#47- Magerk’s Pub
Congrats to all of the winners! It’s no surprise that most of the Federal Hill honorees are owned by groups whose success has allowed them to open multiple bars in the area and regionally. Marc McFaul owns Ropewalk and Stalking Horse, which both made the list, as well as Delia Foley’s. The ownership group behind Ryleigh’s Oyster recently opened their second location in Timonium and are pursuing Crossbar. MaGerk’s also has restaurants in Bel Air and Fort Washington, PA, and Pub Dog has a second restaurant in Columbia. And, the ownership of No Idea recently opened Smaltimore in Canton, which also made the list at #19.
Though not in the Top 50, several bars in the South Baltimore area won superlatives. Pickles Pub was named ‘Best Pre-Game,’ Nick’s Fish House was named ‘Best Bar on the Water,’ and Mother’s Federal Hill Grille won Reader’s Choice ‘Best Sports Bar.’
